First: Some sad news from Kevin Quinlan. He will be leaving the University to engage in a new adventure as Principal of the Nova Scotia Teacher's College. He will be leaving in April. Congratulations, Kevin!!!!
- Selection of Study Sites
- After some discussion, six community nodes were chosen. The six communities are:
- Willowbunch
- Val Marie
- Caryle
- Balcarres
- Craik
- Naicam
- New need to obtain characteristics and basic demographics for these communities (i.e. cultural, historical).
- Barbara Powell has agreed to provide the histories for the communities based on existing research.
II. Summary
- Summary from researchers was omitted due to time constraints- will hear from all researchers at next meeting.
III. Question Selection
- We need to decide on the questions for the questionnaire ASAP.
- Please provide Polo with a list of questions you would like to see asked in each of the communities.
- Please get in touch with Polo within the next two weeks (Jan. 23- Feb. 5).
- Other Business
- We will begin to execute lunch hour seminars. These will focus on researchers' particular interests; how they see themselves approaching their particular issue.
- These seminars will occur once every two weeks.
- First seminar February 1st:
It will be led by Polo Diaz. The topic of this first seminar will be a general discussion of cohesion and community from each researcher's perspective.
- The second seminar will be held on February 15th and led by Dave Gauthier. The topic will be the use of indicators as measures of sustainability and community cohesion.
- The funds from the Transdisciplinary Fund came through.
- Would like to see that two members from each community attend a workshop in Regina.
- The workshop will focus on issues of sustainability in their community.
- Need to decide when (as soon as possible).
- What will it involve?
- Who will attend?
- This is an important workshop as it may influence how the community embraces this research.
For next week: Decide on individuals from each community who will attend the workshop
- Annual meeting with partners: need to consider this and decide when the best time would be.
